Happy Valentine’s Day to all my readers! Today is filled with love and cheer all around to world. Let us not forget the one who “first loved us.”
Today, I want to talk about the biblical definition of love. I am going to be deriving this short lesson from 1 Corinthians 13.
Love is:
Patient- able to accept or tolerate delays, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.
Kind- gentle, caring, and helpful.
Keeps no record of wrongdoing.
Rejoices in truth.
Protects- keeps and secures from danger and/or attack.
Trusts- to put your confidence into someone or something.
Hopes- to desire with expectation of obtainment or fulfillment.
Perseveres- continues in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success.
It never FAILS.
Love does not:
Envy- feeling discontent or covetous with regard to another’s attributes or belongings.
Dishonor- bring shame or disgrace onto someone.
Self-seeking- only having concerns for your own welfare and interest before those of others.
Delight in evil.
The bible states that you can speak in tongues, prophecy, have all knowledge, an abundance of faith, be a hard worker and give all day long, but if you do not have love, you have nothing.
On this day of love, examine yourself. Ask the Lord to search your hearts. Do you truly have love? Are you truly loving others? Do you love yourself? Do you love God?
Scriptures to meditate on:
1 Corinthians 13
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 1 John 4:20
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13
And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:14
If you love me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8
