I am Clay

In the beginning, God Almighty formed the first man from the dust of the earth in his own image. Even now, we are being molded and shaped by the hands of God.

But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou, our potter; and we are all the work of thy hand. Isaiah 64:8

As born-again believers, we seek to please our Father and to be like him. He is constantly beckoning us into a deeper relationship. Within that relationship, he begins to show us who he desires us to be and gives us the tools to become that person.

Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5

God sees what is inside of you. We often cannot see the greatness that is inside us. As we travel through the course of life, things attach to us that can cover what is truly inside. It can be sin, hurt, rejection, mistakes, failure, insecurities, or just everyday circumstances of life. Yet, God is faithful. We may not be able to see the potential that is inside of us, but we serve a God who can. He sees all and knows all.

If you let your father, the Potter, break off the pieces that aren’t supposed to be, he will come through. It doesn’t matter if it is bitterness, unforgiveness, shame, guilt, or secret sin. Give it to God. Let him show you what he has seen in you all along. Don’t let the trials of life steal your destiny. Don’t let the burden of sin steal your hope for the future. Give it to God.

As he molds you, you may have to face some things you do not want to. There may be some fiery trials. But you will come out as pure gold. As he is breaking, molding, and applying pressure, he has a picture in mind. That picture is him. When he sees you, he wants to see him.

But he knows the way that I take: when he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold. Job 23:10

In the end, we are his, and he is ours. What better way to be than to be like our creator? We are on a journey that is continually about becoming better. If we are to be like him, then we have so much to learn.

When you begin to ask God to break you, to mold you, then do not be surprised when things start to change. People may leave, you may have to make tough choices, or sacrifice things in your life. Higher levels call for deeper devotion. It can be a painful process when God begins to show you parts of yourself or make you face things that you never thought you’d have to. In all things he is creating a better and more beautiful you. Full of life and faith.
